Guidestones

On my travels with BRAG, I came to the outskirts of Elberton, Ga. This very little sleepy town did have on giant of a structure made of granite. (More on the granite later)

Georgia Guidestones

The Georgia Guidestones are very large granite structures built and inscribed with 8 different languages. Some people call this little piece of history in Elberton the "American Stonehenge".

It is said to be astronomically aligned. So, perhaps it can tell us our future. I doubt it. By all appearances these stones out in the middle of soy been and corn fields appear innocent enough to just a tourist trap--except no charge for stopping by. Well, I stopped, shot and how you can see it for yourself.

The Cow Patty Drop

On my recent BRAG (Bike Ride Across Georgia), we were treated to an interesting fund raiser. It was called the Great Cow Patty Drop. Tickets were sold which found a corresponding location gridded off on the local football field. The winner would receive half the money collected from ticket sales. To help determine the winner of the money, a cow was brought to the field, fed a quick meal of oats or grain and then allowed to roam around the gridded area. The cow was leashed, but basically just wandered around in circles watching all the people who were watching her. Soon the moment came. She did her business and depending upon which square, someone would win the jackpot.
Here are a couple of pictures, with one in particular that showed one camera person's interest in the area of question on the cow, which would of cour
se eventually determine the winner.

By the way, I did not win. And that was crappy--not lit
erally, because, well, I didn't win!!

The spring flowers are passing as summer heat is coming on strong. This picture is a reminder of some transitional flowers which are still in bloom.

My New Ride--Not

I am training for my annual summer bike ride, Bike Ride Across Georgia, or BRAG. This year we are in the hills of north GA. I ran across this bike while vacationing in Florida this winter, but have decided it just might not be my new ride after all. A wooden steed is sturdy, but how about the splinters. Ouch

Still Sneezing

Here in Georgia, the pollen has not been as bad as the last couple of years. With rain we have had, the pollen gets washed out and down the storm drains more quickly than previous years. But for some reason, I have the lingering effects what seems even worse this year. Go figure. Though I despise the allergies caused by pollen, I really love to see the trees in bloom, the early flowers of color on display and basically enjoy the onset of spring, which seems to last from March through May. Here is one picture where the colors seem to jump off the page. Enjoy it and save yourself the pollen reactions that I have endured recently.
